| Old Time Banjo Festival CDs...$14 |
|
My old friend Cathy Fink, who is a first rate musician and
producer, recorded most of the pre-eminent contemporary clawhammer banjo
players to create this beautiful CD on Rounder Records. Most of the cuts are
solo or with small configurations so you can really hear the intricacies
and beauty of the this style of banjo. I'm included playing an old Robert
Burns tune called Ye Banks and Breas o' Bonnie Dune, accompanied by myself
on bowed bass.

| Bluegrass Album Band Vol 5...$14 |
The Bluegrass Album Band, Vol V, Sweet Sunny South. These volumes represent a flawless treatment of mostly traditional bluegrass material by the best of the 2nd generation of bluegrass musicians. Because of some scheduling difficulties Vassar Clements and I sat in for Todd Phillips and Bobby Hicks on this particular volume. All live harmony and no overdubs on this one - what a treat!

| Bluegrass 2000...$14 |
|
The rhythm section of the band that recorded these volumes - Scott Vestal,
Wayne, Benson, Jeff Autrey, and yours truly - is one of the most driving and
easy to groove with of any that I've ever played with. Lots of hot pickin
on these mostly instrumental projects with a variety of new and old tunes,
including a few of my own.

| Brand New The Old Tyme Way...$14 |
|
This was my first solo CD released in 1995. It highlights my original
compositions on clawhammer banjo (although I play mandolin on a few tracks
and there's a light hearted bass duet with Roy) backed up by a stellar
configuration of musicians including Stuart Duncan, David Grier, Mike
Compton, Roy Huskey Jr., Jerry Douglas, and Bela Fleck who also produced
the CD.

| Red On Blonde...$14 |
|
I've always been a Dylan fan but hearing Tim sing this collection of his
songs gave me a whole new appreciation both for the genius of Dylan and the
peerless artistry of Tim O'Brien. This should be a part of everyone's music
collection.

| Mark Schatz Banjo Tab Book...$25 |
|
This is a somewhat informal but extensive volume made up of
two parts. The first is clawhammer instruction including tabs I've used in a
number of banjo workshops and classes that I have taught. This includes
exercises and a number of traditional tunes arranged in varying degrees of
difficulty to demonstrate the techniques included in the exercises. The
second part is tabs of most of the things I have recorded on the clawhammer
banjo including projects with Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien, and Jerry Douglas,
everything from my first CD, Brand New Old Tyme Way, and several tabs from
my most recent CD, Steppin' in the Boiler House.
